Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has raised concerns over the regrouping of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the Tumbus areas of Lake Chad and the Mandara Hills within the Sambisa Forest in the state.

He made this statement during a visit by the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other senior military commanders in Maiduguri on Friday.

Zulum expressed worry that Boko Haram and ISWAP are getting international support and are freely operating in the Tumbus water areas on Lake Chad without much military effort to displace them.He lamented that military operations are often conducted, only for the terrorists to regroup and retake control of previously regained areas.

The governor emphasized the need for military operations to be conducted in the waterways to prevent the terrorists from using the area as a breeding ground.

He also highlighted the threat of porous borders, particularly through the Sahel region, which allows terrorists to infiltrate and get support internationally.

This warning comes less than a week after a security analyst, Bulama Bukarti, cautioned that Boko Haram’s activities are gaining popularity on social media platforms like TikTok.Senator Ali Ndume recently revealed that about 100 soldiers and 280 civilians were killed by Boko Haram in six months.
