Kwara Man Dies After Jumping into Well Under Influence of Hard Drugs

A 43-year-old man identified as Kareem has died after reportedly jumping into a well while under the influence of a hard drug in the Edun area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday shortly after the Eid-el-Kabir prayers. Kareem, said to have taken a synthetic cannabinoid locally known as ‘Colorado,’ was seen jumping into a well located at Ile Alapo, Edun.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, the agency received a distress call around 10:29 a.m.

Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene and recovered the man’s lifeless body.

“The victim, identified as Kazeem, reportedly jumped into the well under the influence of a hard substance known as ‘Colo’ shortly after returning from Eid prayers,” the statement read.

The body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station in Ilorin.

The Ministry is now awaiting formal identification and collection of the body by the deceased’s family.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report, as calls and messages to her WhatsApp number went unanswered.

Reacting to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sorrow and used the opportunity to warn residents about the dangers of drug abuse.

He urged the public to stay away from hard substances, noting that such behaviors often lead to tragic outcomes.
