“Burna Boy Is Not Anybody’s Mate”—Skales Defends Grammy Winner Against Online Critics
Nigerian singer Skales has come to the defense of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, calling on fans and critics to show respect and stop spreading misinformation about him.
Taking to social media, Skales expressed disappointment over false narratives being circulated online and warned against making casual or familiar remarks about Burna Boy.
“Pls and please put some respect on Burna’s name … Burna is not anybody’s mate, including me … I’ve been seeing some b.s fly around that is made up. Burna never said that … leave that man alone. Much respect to Odg,” he stated.
Skales emphasized that Burna Boy keeps to himself and doesn’t maintain close relationships with anyone in the industry, including him. He urged people to stop attributing false statements to the singer.
The remarks come amid resurfaced claims made by Skales, where he said that their past collaboration on the “Temper Remix” played a pivotal role in Burna Boy’s rise to fame.
“I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me. So, nobody helps anybody. We probably admire ourselves and we decide to work together.

“As at then, Burna Boy had no hot song before I featured him on ‘Temper Remix.’
“It was after our collaboration that he started excelling. I’m not trying to take credit for his success, but he has inspired me over the years and I believe I inspired him at a point, too,” Skales explained.
Skales clarified that while he does not seek to downplay Burna’s achievements, he believes their collaboration marked a significant turning point for both their careers.
