A fire broke out at the Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State, around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

It was gathered that the fire started when most traders were asleep and quickly spread, burning many shops and goods.

An eyewitness, who didn’t want to be named, said the fire began in the section where second-hand clothes are sold before spreading to other areas. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Firefighters got to the market not long after the fire started, but they struggled to put it out.

Many traders were seen crying and watching helplessly as their shops and goods were destroyed. Some said they had just restocked their shops before the incident.

Security officers were sent to the area to manage the crowd and stop any looting, as emotions were high.

There has been no official statement yet, but the Plateau State government is expected to investigate the cause of the fire.

Affected traders are now asking the government and well-meaning individuals for help and support.

“We need government intervention urgently,” said Musa Ibrahim, told FCNN in tears.

Another trader, Abubakar, told FCNN “I am finished.”
