FG to Establish Cattle Breeding Centres Nationwide to Tackle Herders-Farmers Clashes, Boost Food Security

The Federal Government has unveiled plans to set up cattle breeding centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as part of a comprehensive strategy to modernise livestock production and enhance national food security.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi, made this known during a recent address, stating that the initiative will not only improve meat and dairy production but also help reduce the perennial clashes between herders and farmers across the country.

According to him, the breeding centres will serve as hubs for controlled livestock management, offering advanced animal husbandry techniques and infrastructure to support a sustainable livestock value chain.

“This move is crucial for achieving food sufficiency, reducing conflict, and boosting economic opportunities for rural communities,” Abdullahi said.

The plan aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on transforming the agricultural sector as a key driver of economic growth and food stability.

Implementation is expected to begin in phases, with stakeholder engagement, land allocation, and infrastructural development topping the agenda in the coming months.
