Court Orders Eko Disco to Restore Electricity to Lagos Hotel

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has issued an interim order directing Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (Eko Disco) to immediately restore electricity supply to Protea Hotel by Marriott, situated at Kuramo Waters, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke made the ruling following an ex parte application filed by Chief Ajibola Aribisala (SAN), representing Princely Court Limited, the franchise holder of the hotel.
According to the application, the hotel’s power was unlawfully disconnected at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The defendants in the suit include Eko Electricity Distribution Plc, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and four individuals: Rekhiat Momoh, Samuel Edoho, Abdulkadir Abdulrahman, and Agbioghale Emmanuel.
Pending the determination of the main suit for an interlocutory injunction, the court granted several interim reliefs sought by the plaintiff, including: an order compelling the immediate reconnection of power to the hotel’s premises at Kuramo Waters; an injunction restraining the defendants from tampering with or disconnecting the hotel’s power supply in the future; an injunction prohibiting interference with the electricity meter currently installed at the property; an order directing the four individual defendants (3rd to 6th) to strictly comply with all court directives regarding the reconnection of electricity once served with the court’s order.
Justice Aneke granted the reliefs after reviewing the plaintiff’s motion, which was supported by an 82-paragraph affidavit sworn by Sotayo Oluwabukunolami, the hotel’s Operations Manager. The affidavit was accompanied by 10 exhibits and a written legal address.
