18 Killed in Sokoto Village Attack as Tensions Rise Over Fulani Banditry
Tragedy has struck Kwallajiya village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where 18 Hausa villagers were reportedly killed in a brutal attack allegedly carried out by a notorious Fulani militia leader, Kachalla Chrambe, and his armed gang.
Local sources described the attack as a massacre, stating that it was not just an act of banditry but part of what they called a “systematic genocide” targeting Hausa communities across the region.
“This is not a random attack,” one resident said. “Our villages are being wiped out, one after another, while those responsible continue to operate freely and with apparent protection.”
The attackers, according to community leaders, are well known but remain untouched by security forces. They accused certain elements within the system of shielding the perpetrators and sabotaging local efforts to form self-defense vigilante groups, similar to those established in Zamfara State.

“The Sokoto government’s refusal to support community-led security initiatives is dangerous and telling,” another resident added. “We can no longer be silent while our people are slaughtered.”
There has been no official statement yet from Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu or security agencies regarding the attack. However, the incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for urgent action to protect vulnerable communities and bring the attackers to justice.
Many residents expressed frustration with what they see as government inaction and complicity, warning that continued silence could worsen the crisis.
“We mourn. We rage. We demand justice,” a community leader declared. “The blood of the innocent cries out.”
As tension continues to mount in the region, there are renewed calls for a nationwide strategy to address the escalating violence in northern Nigeria.
