22-Year-Old Who Fell from Cocoa House Identified, Laid to Rest

The young man who tragically fell from the 26-storey Cocoa House in Ibadan has been identified as 22-year-old Feranmi Akin-Akinye.
According to Newspeakonline, Akin-Akinye was a graduate of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), and was undergoing cybersecurity training at a firm located on the eighth floor of the iconic building.
A neighbour of the deceased, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Feranmi lived with his mother in the Meridian area of Apata, Ibadan.
His father is reportedly based in the United States.
The neighbour alleged that Akin-Akinye had been instructed to mount a large wall banner at the top of the building—a task typically handled by professionals with specialized training and equipment.
“I blame the company for his death. He came from a good home, was humble and respectful. He had a car from his parents, but you’d never know from how modest he was. They told him to mount a banner meant for trained professionals, and he agreed because of how humble he was,” the neighbour said.
They also claimed the company attempted to downplay the incident. “They said he was taken to the emergency ward, but he had already died.
His mother wasn’t even contacted by the company—it was a passerby who called her.
When 32 FM, which operates within Cocoa House, tried to take photos, they were stopped. His body was covered quickly. I heard he was badly mangled,” the source added.
