26 Kidnappers Nabbed in Major Security Sweep in Okunland.

Odo-Ape, Kabba-Bunu LGA — In a major security breakthrough, 26 suspected kidnappers have been arrested in a joint operation by the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) and other security agencies in Kogi West.

State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd.), disclosed the arrests while parading the suspects in Odo-Ape, the heart of Okunland, on Tuesday. He noted the operation, which spanned the last two weeks, is part of the State Government’s aggressive efforts to rid the region of criminal elements.

“Some were arrested deep inside the forests, fully armed, while others were local collaborators supplying food and logistics,” Omodara said. He added that 16 armed kidnappers were caught in Bunu forest, including individuals from Zamfara State. The most dangerous suspects have been handed over to the DSS for further investigation.

Traditional ruler of Aiyegunle-Igun Bunu, Oba Sunday Omodamori, praised the crackdown, criticizing a recent protest as “misleading” and “unfortunate.”

“These criminals come from as far as Kebbi and Zamfara and settle in our communities. This government, alongside our local hunters, is doing what needs to be done,” the monarch stated, urging locals to identify and reject collaborators within their midst.

Youth Leader of Aiyegunle-Igun, Ojo Olayinka, distanced the community from the protest, blaming outsiders for hijacking it to spread falsehoods.

“Okunland is finally seeing real progress. The days of unchecked kidnapping are fading. We must now stand together and support ongoing security efforts,” Olayinka said.

The community applauded Governor Usman Ododo’s administration and called for continued joint efforts by security forces, vigilantes, and residents to sustain the momentum.

This cleanup operation is one of the most effective in recent memory and signals a renewed hope for lasting peace in Okunland.
