A 27-year-old man identified as Adekunle Obideyi, have been arrested by men of the Osun Amotekun Corps for the alleged theft of cocoa, banana and other farm produce.
Obideyi, is an indigene of Erinmo-Ijesa, in Osun State.
He was apprehended on Tuesday after stealing agricultural produce from a farm in the community and absconding with them.
Isaac Omoyele, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, while briefing journalists on Monday in Osogbo, said that the suspect was arrested following a complaint.
Omoyele said, “Amotekun operatives swiftly acted on the information, tracking down and capturing Obideyi in his hideout in Erinmo-Ijesa.
“During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that this was not his first involvement in such illegal activities.”
Omoyele also explained the suspect revealed that he would often steal cocoa and bananas from farms and sell them to interested buyers.
He noted that the suspect was apprehended after committing the theft and attempting to hide in an uncompleted building, where he was eventually caught and transferred to the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for further investigation and interrogation.
The Corps Commander then urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and security-conscious in their communities as well as encouraged them to report any suspicious activities or security breaches to the Amotekun Corps or other relevant security agencies for quick intervention.
