Mrs Cynthia Ikponwosa Managing Director of Microfinance Bank announced on Saturday that LAPO has invested N656,486,900 to support 4,114 young Nigerians since its inception. This investment is part of the firm’s commitment to education and empowerment, highlighting their belief that such initiatives are crucial for comprehensive societal development.
Speaking during the 16th edition of the LAPO Scholarship Scheme, Ikponwosa said the event celebrates academic excellence and highlights the transformative role of education in alleviating poverty and fostering sustainable development.
Expressing optimism that more Nigerians can benefit from the scholarship empowerment programme, the Managing Director of LAPO Microfinance Bank said LAPO has invested N656,486,900, benefiting 4,114 young Nigerians.

She said that a key component of the Bank’s scholarship and Skills Acquisition Scheme, launched 16 years ago, is targeted at providing LAPO customers’ children with access to quality education.

“Today, many beneficiaries have graduated and are making significant contributions across various sectors. To further enhance the program’s value, the LAPO Scholarship Tertiary Alumni Forum connects graduate beneficiaries, enabling them to mentor current students of the scheme and maintain strong ties with the LAPO community.
This network fosters leadership, community engagement, and professional growth among alumni while amplifying the program’s impact,” Ikponwosa said.
Ikponwosa said that LAPO remains committed to financial inclusion, with a particular focus on women’s empowerment, adding that its services address barriers faced by women entrepreneurs, artisans, and small business owners, with a view to enabling them to transform their lives, grow their businesses, and uplift their families.
“This milestone would not have been possible without the dedication of the Scholarship Board, led by Professor Christiana Okojie, our supportive partners, and the trust of the communities we serve. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to expanding this program’s reach, ensuring that talents and determination define success, not circumstances,” Ikponwosa said.
In his remarks, Founder of LAPO Group, Dr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe, said the LAPO Scholarship Scheme, which has inspired many, continues to serve as a cornerstone in breaking the cycle of poverty.
