A stray bullet from a policeman, claims the life of a WAEC candidate in Ibadan.

A WAEC candidate heading to school for his exams on Tuesday morning was mistakenly struck by a stray bullet fired by a police officer during a high-speed chase in Ibadan.

 

According to an Eyewitness,The incident occurred on Gbagi Market Road in Egbeda local government area of Oyo State, as the officer pursued a fleeing vehicle, allegedly suspected to be popular “Yahoo Boys.”

 

Sadly , a missed target bullet hits the student, who was riding on a motorcycle with his twin brother to school.The boy was on his way to take the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination at the time of the tragic incident.

 

He was immediately taken to Welfare Hospital but was declared dead on arrival (DOA).. Angry market traders and sympathisers protested by carrying the boy’s remains to the Oyo State Secretariat Agodi, demanding justice.

 

Security personnel had fully mounted the entrance of the government secretariat to control the crowd, while protesters called for accountability and thorough investigation in the misconduct of the police officer.

 

At the time of this report, Neither the Oyo State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
