Fulani Herdsmen to Vacate Kogi Under 48-hours

Chairman of Ankpa Local Government Area in Kogi State, Engr. Adamu Muhammed Yahaya, has handed Fulani herdsmen in Emere community a 48-hour deadline to vacate the area with their cattle.

The decision, announced during a stakeholders’ meeting at the council secretariat, followed rising concerns over the destruction of farmlands during the cropping season.

Engr. Adamu stressed that agriculture remains the lifeline of Ankpa people and vowed his administration will not allow farmers to suffer crop losses due to unchecked grazing.

“Farmers must be able to cultivate without fear of harm or crop destruction. My administration is committed to securing our communities and ensuring peace,” he declared.

While urging the herders to relocate peacefully, the Chairman also appealed to Emere youths to remain law-abiding and avoid clashes.

The Fulani leader in Ankpa, Mallam Dantata, thanked the council for its hospitality, while Emere’s traditional leader, His Highness Ayuba Jibrin, praised the Chairman’s wisdom and promised that youths would not harm herders or their cattle.

The meeting ended with a consensus for the herders’ relocation, paving the way for a peaceful farming season.
