ACF Applauds Tinubu for North-West and North-Central Development Commissions
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has praised President Bola Tinubu for establishing the North-West and North-Central Development Commissions, describing the initiative as a significant step toward regional growth.
During a courtesy visit to Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who also serves as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), ACF Chairman Mamman Osuman lauded the move, emphasizing its potential to alleviate poverty, reduce inequality and improve infrastructure in the regions.
Osuman noted that the commissions would play a similar role to the New Nigeria Development Company Ltd, established in 1949, in boosting the North’s economic and industrial development. However, he warned against the politicization of appointments within the commissions, stressing that merit-based selections are essential to ensuring their success.
He stated: “Politicisation could undermine their purpose. Appointments should be based on merit to preserve the integrity of these development initiatives.”
The forum also urged Northern governments and citizens to unite in addressing regional challenges. Echoing this sentiment, ACF Board of Trustees Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, underscored the importance of restoring the North’s lost respect and called on leaders to prioritize improving the quality of life for the region’s citizens.
Dalhatu remarked: “Our priority is understanding the people’s struggles,” while urging political authorities to take swift action to alleviate hardship.

Governor Yahaya reaffirmed the commitment of the 19 Northern governors to overcoming regional challenges. He highlighted the North’s abundant resources, emphasizing their potential to drive sustainable development and economic prosperity.
“The region’s resources are sufficient to meet the needs of its people,” Yahaya assured, promising that Northern governors would remain steadfast in their efforts to enhance the region’s economic landscape.
The establishment of the North-West and North-Central Development Commissions marks a pivotal moment in the drive for equitable growth and infrastructure development in the North, positioning the regions for a brighter and more prosperous future.
