Actors Guild President Emeka Rollas Arrested Amid Abia Leadership Crisis
The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Chief Emeka Rollas, has been arrested and detained by the police in Umuahia, Abia State, over allegations of imposing an unelected chairman on the guild’s Abia State chapter.
The arrest follows the contentious election of David Onyebuchi Amalaha as AGN Abia State Chairman on May 20, 2023, in Umuahia. Since the election, the guild has faced legal disputes initiated by Amalaha, who opposes the national body’s efforts to install interim leadership in the state.
Members of the guild, including Chika Okezie, Egwuatu Daniel, and Nathaniel Nwoko, accused Chief Rollas of fueling division by appointing over five interim chairmen since 2023, bypassing the will of the guild’s members.

The controversy intensified on Thursday when Chief Rollas organized a meeting in Umuahia without consulting key stakeholders, including Amalaha. The meeting led to protests and disruptions, prompting police intervention to restore order.
Sources confirmed that a petition had been filed against Chief Rollas at the Zone 9 headquarters, leading to his detention alongside popular actor Emmanuel Ehumadu, also known as “Labista.”
The crisis has left the Abia State chapter of the Actors Guild in turmoil, with members demanding transparency and adherence to democratic principles within the guild.
