Adebule Empowers Lagos Monarchs with Security Seminar
Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, has urged traditional rulers in her constituency to prioritize security in their domains.
Hosting the monarchs for a one-day seminar on security management and community engagement, Adebule emphasized the importance of proactive measures to ensure peace during the festive season and beyond.
Speaking at the event, the senator highlighted the critical role of traditional rulers in conflict resolution and collaboration with law enforcement. “By enhancing their understanding of security dynamics, we aimed to empower them to play a more active role in maintaining peace and stability in their respective communities and Lagos West at large,” she stated.
The former Lagos State deputy governor underscored the significance of a secure environment for meaningful development. She noted that as custodians of culture and grassroots influencers, royal fathers are integral to non-kinetic approaches to security.
“The traditional rulers are the custodians of our culture and customs, they are the people at the grassroots. Their palaces are the closest to the people, so if you are talking of security, you must not only talk of the kinetic aspect but also look at it from all aspects which the traditional rulers are taking care of. On our part, considering the Yuletide period, we thought it ideal to bring them together to forge a synergy on better securing their domains,” Adebule said.
The event also featured insights from Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panti Lagos, DCP Ahmed Lateef, who represented the Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olarewaju Olawale. Lateef highlighted the importance of community policing, describing monarchs as vital members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

“One thing we must know is the fact that the police cannot police everywhere without the support of the community. We believe so much in community engagement and that is why we engaged the royal fathers that if they see something in their domains, they should say something,” Lateef said.
The royal fathers were also reminded of their legal authority to report trends or arrest criminals in collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
Expressing gratitude, the Elewu of Ewu Kingdom, Oba Shakiru Kuti, commended Senator Adebule for organizing the seminar. He assured that the monarchs would intensify efforts to maintain peace and security in their territories.
