Adeleke Travels to U.S. for Davido’s Wedding Amid Criticism

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew and award-winning music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido had earlier confirmed that he and his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, would be holding their white wedding in Miami, Florida, in August 2025. The announcement was made during an interview on The Breakfast Club aired on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the trip in a statement on Tuesday, following concerns raised by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over the governor’s absence.
“Governor Adeleke departed Nigeria for the United States a few days ago aboard the family’s private jet to attend the wedding ceremony of his beloved nephew, the global music icon David Adeleke,” Rasheed said.
He added that Adeleke had not taken any official leave since assuming office in November 2022 and emphasized that the trip would be brief.
“For the record, the governor has not embarked on any official vacation since taking office. Even now, he has opted for a short trip to ensure he continues to discharge his duties effectively,” he stated.
Rasheed further noted that the governor remains in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is currently overseeing government affairs.
Extending an olive branch to critics, Rasheed also invited members of the opposition to join in the celebration, either physically or virtually.
Meanwhile, the Osun APC criticized the governor’s absence, alleging he left the state without informing residents or formally handing over to his deputy.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC described Adeleke’s absence as “abnormal” and questioned the lack of transparency.

“There are murmurs in public spaces, in buses, and among commercial motorcyclists asking where the governor has been for the past two weeks,” the statement read.
“As a party, we demand to know the governor’s whereabouts and who has been managing state affairs in his absence. Was power officially transmitted to his deputy, as required by the constitution?” the APC queried.
