Airtel Partners with SpaceX to Expand Internet Access Across Africa

Airtel Africa has announced a strategic partnership with SpaceX to deliver high-speed internet through Starlink’s satellite network, aiming to improve connectivity for its subscribers, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

With SpaceX already licensed in 9 of the 14 African countries where Airtel operates, this collaboration will provide an alternative to traditional broadband and significantly expand internet coverage.

By leveraging Starlink’s satellite technology, Airtel intends to enhance access for businesses, schools, healthcare centers, and communities that have long faced internet challenges.

Emeka Oparah, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Airtel Africa, emphasized that the partnership will strengthen enterprise solutions and support digital inclusion throughout the continent. He noted that SpaceX will also gain from Airtel’s robust ground infrastructure, making the partnership mutually advantageous.

Airtel Africa CEO, Sunil Taldar, highlighted the company’s dedication to improving digital access, calling the deal a significant move toward bringing affordable and reliable internet to even the most remote areas.

Chad Gibbs, SpaceX’s Vice President of Starlink Business Operations, expressed enthusiasm about teaming up with Airtel, praising the telecom provider’s strong footprint in Africa. He added that Starlink already operates in over 20 African markets and is eager to grow further through this alliance.
