Aisha Achimugu Initiates Hunger Strike in EFCC Custody

Aisha Achimugu, a prominent business executive and socialite, has reportedly commenced a hunger strike while being held in custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), following her recent arrest by the agency’s operatives.

Her legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu, issued a statement on Tuesday in Abuja confirming her arrest, which took place around 5 a.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Achimugu had been declared wanted by the EFCC in March 2025 on allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.

Additionally, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, had ordered her to appear before the EFCC on Tuesday and the court on Wednesday, relating to an ongoing investigation into the aforementioned allegations.

According to Ojukwu, Achimugu returned to Nigeria in accordance with her legal obligations following the court’s directive, but was arrested upon her arrival at the airport.

“She has since initiated a hunger strike. We consider her a prisoner of conscience, and we assert that her arrest violates the principles of the rule of law,” he stated.

Efforts to contact the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, regarding Achimugu’s arrest were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered.

Ojukwu highlighted that Achimugu is a well-established business leader, serving as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Felak Concept Group, a consortium with interests in engineering, maritime, oil and gas, and information technology.
