Aminu Dantata Laid to Rest in Madinah Amidst Dignitaries, Government Delegation

Nigeria’s legendary business tycoon, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who died on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was buried on Tuesday at the revered Al-Baqi Cemetery in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. His interment followed the Jana’iza (funeral) prayers conducted after Maghrib at the Prophet’s Mosque.

 

According to a statement from the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, signed by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister, the late industrialist’s remains arrived in Madinah on Tuesday morning. He was accompanied by his son, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata; his nephew, Africa’s richest man Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and other family members.

A high-level delegation representing the Nigerian government also attended the funeral rites. The team, which departed Nigeria late Sunday and arrived in Madinah early Monday, was led by Minister of Defence and former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

Other members of the delegation included the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata; and Director of Internal Security at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Hassan Abdullahi.

 

Notable Islamic clerics also joined the trip, including Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and Khalifa Abdullahi Muhammad, who is the Imam of the Dantata Mosque in Abuja.

Officials of the Nigerian Consulate General in Jeddah were present at the burial. The consular team, led by Ambassador Ibrahim Moddibbo, was supported by Ambassador Muazzam Ibrahim Nayaya and Defence Attaché, Major General Adamu Hassan, who coordinated the funeral logistics.

Among other notable dignitaries at the burial were Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje; Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State; and Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State.

Alhaji Aliko Dangote led family members and close associates in paying their final respects, while the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero were also present to honor the late patriarch.
