Anambra Police Commissioner Orders Detention of Three Officers Over Corruption Allegation

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the detention of three police inspectors following allegations of corruption.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers allegedly stopped a civilian during a patrol, forcibly searched his phone, and extorted money from him.

Reacting to the incident, CP Orutugu expressed strong disapproval of the officers’ conduct and directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary procedures.

The statement read in part:

“The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, on June 11, 2025, ordered the detention of three police inspectors over an allegation of corruption. He further directed the immediate commencement of internal disciplinary proceedings against the officers.”

During interrogation, the CP condemned the actions of the officers, describing their behavior as a clear breach of police ethics and a violation of public trust.

He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to discipline, transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

Ikenga further noted that such misconduct undermines the integrity of law enforcement efforts and erodes public confidence in the police, warning that the Force will not tolerate any form of abuse of office or unethical behavior.
