Another Bridge Collapses in Taraba State.
Tragedy struck again in Taraba State today as the Malam-Audu Bridge, which connects Pantisawa to Jalingo, gave way, cutting off movement between the two communities.
The collapse occurred in the early hours of the day, leaving scores of commuters, motorists, and pedestrians stranded on both sides of the divide. Eyewitnesses reported that heavy rainfall in recent days may have weakened the structure, while others blamed a lack of timely maintenance by relevant authorities.
The bridge, a vital link for trade, schooling, and medical access, has now brought daily activities in the area to a standstill. Transport operators have been forced to halt services, while residents are calling on the state and federal governments to urgently provide a temporary crossing and begin reconstruction works immediately.
Local traders lamented that perishable goods were already spoiling, while some passengers were forced to make long and risky detours through remote villages to reach their destinations.
This incident comes amid growing concerns over the state of road and bridge infrastructure in Taraba, with similar collapses recorded in recent years.
