Gunmen Attack Mourners in Plateau, Amputate Youth’s Hand

Gunmen on Wednesday attacked a group of mourners returning from a burial in the Rim community of Plateau State, leaving one youth severely injured and his hand amputated.
According to repowrts gathered on Thursday, the victims were returning from a funeral in Bachit, a neighbouring community, when armed men blocked the road and opened fire on them.
One of the mourners was shot and had his hand amputated during the brutal assault.
Confirming the incident to reporters, the Liaison Officer to Governor Caleb Mutfwang for Riyom State Constituency, Timothy Dantong, who was among the mourners, said they were ambushed on their way back and had to take cover for several hours.
“Yesterday, I went for a burial in my village in Bachit,” Dantong said. “While returning, there was an attack by gunmen in the neighbouring Rim community. We were advised to stop because we had to pass through that area. We waited for more than five hours for the road to be cleared.
“Some people who couldn’t wait tried to proceed, but they were attacked by the gunmen, whom we identified as Fulani militia. One youth was shot, and his hand was completely amputated. It was an armoured tank dispatched by security operatives that eventually came and rescued us.”
