ASUU Declares Nationwide Campus Protest for August 26

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as a day of protest across campuses nationwide.

In a statement released on its official Facebook page, the union said the protest aims to register its dissatisfaction with the federal government over what it described as “persistent neglect” of its long-standing demands.

“Tuesday, 26th August 2025, has been declared a day of protest across all campuses to express our strong dissatisfaction with the government’s persistent neglect of our demands,” the statement read.

It will be recalled that on August 8, 2025, ASUU President, Prof. Christopher Piwuna, issued a press release urging both federal and state governments to urgently address issues concerning lecturers’ welfare, including the payment of outstanding arrears and improved working conditions.

The union warned that the protest would serve as a reminder to authorities that the future of Nigeria’s higher education system depends on immediate and sustained action.
