Atiku’s Exit Nothing New — ‘We Expect His Return As Usual’ PDP Chairman
The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has dismissed concerns over the resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party, describing it as neither surprising nor unprecedented.
Speaking to FCNN reporters, Damagum said Atiku’s exit is a familiar occurrence in the PDP’s political history and expressed confidence in his eventual return.
“This isn’t the first time. Atiku has left the party before and found his way back. We’re expecting him to return, as usual,” Damagum stated.
He emphasized that the PDP remains strong and united despite Atiku’s departure, and that the party’s doors remain open to both old and new members willing to work for its progress.
“Our party has always been a home for those who believe in true democracy and national unity. People come and go, but the PDP endures. We wish him well wherever he is, but we are confident he’ll retrace his steps back to the party when the time comes,” he added.
Atiku, who has contested the presidency multiple times under various platforms, recently announced his resignation from the PDP, citing internal party issues and a need for political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
