Suicide Bomber Attacks Borno Market, Kills 10 and Injures Many

Over 10 people were killed and many others injured after a suicide bomber attacked a busy market in Gwoza, Borno State, on Saturday morning.

At least 10 people were killed and many others injured after a suicide bomber attacked a busy market in Gwoza, Borno State, on Saturday morning.

The explosion happened around 9:45 a.m. at Marrarraban market, a popular fish market in koundoga . According to eyewitnesses and local officials, the attacker was a young female who entered the crowded market and set off a bomb strapped to her body.

Police in Borno State confirmed the deaths and said more than 30 people were taken to hospitals with injuries. Emergency workers and local volunteers rushed to help the victims and carry them to safety.

One security officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack may have been carried out by a member of Boko Haram or the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), two terrorist groups known to operate in the region.

A witness, Musa Garba, who survived the attack, said, “I was buying vegetables when I heard a loud sound. Smoke was everywhere. People were running and shouting. I saw people lying on the ground. It was terrible.”

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum, condemned the bombing and called it a “cowardly and evil act.” He sent his condolences to the families of the victims and promised that security in the area would be increased.

This bombing is one of the worst attacks in recent times in Borno, a state that has suffered for years from violence caused by insurgent groups. Even though the Nigerian government says it has made progress in fighting terrorism, attacks like this show that the danger is still very real.

After the explosion, soldiers and police set up more checkpoints around Gwoza to stop any further attacks. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

The Nigerian army, along with help from neighboring countries, continues to fight terrorists in the northeast. However, experts say these groups are changing how they attack, often using women or children to carry bombs into crowded places.

Authorities are asking people to stay alert and report anything unusual. As the injured receive treatment and families bury their loved ones, many Nigerians are once again calling for better protection and stronger efforts to stop terrorism in the country.
