Ayo Maff, Record Label Clash Over Alleged Contract Breach

Popular Nigerian singer, Ayorinde Mafoluku, professionally known as Ayo Maff, is locked in a messy dispute with his record label, Tunesbid Limited, over an alleged violation of their contractual agreement.

In a statement issued by the label’s CEO, Precious Okolie, and shared with eporters on Monday, July 21, Tunesbid claimed it had invested heavily in promoting Ayo Maff, including backing singles such as Street Anthem, 7 Days, and Dealer. However, the label alleged that the artiste and his management team secretly entered talks with global distribution company, Empire Distribution, without its knowledge or consent.

“These efforts drew the attention of international distributors, including Empire Distribution, which offered to distribute two EPs with an option for an LP album,” the statement read. “Empire also agreed to make an upfront payment to Tunesbid Limited, and sent over contract documents for execution.”

Tunesbid, however, accused Ayo Maff and his management—Oyefeso Oluwamayowa Olumide, Okolie Arnold Chiedu, and Oyefeso Ayotunde—of deliberately deceiving the label by negotiating in bad faith.

“Unknown to us, the artiste and his team had already initiated private meetings with Empire and refused to sign the distribution deal once recordings for the first EP were completed.

They then left the label’s premises without handing over the completed tracks or notifying us,” the statement continued.

The label further claimed that the artiste’s team later sent two letters, dated May 17 and May 30, 2024, expressing their intent to walk away from the agreement—less than six months after signing.

Despite several attempts at mediation and formal communication, Tunesbid said the artiste and his team showed no willingness to settle the matter amicably.

The label has now directed its legal counsel, led by Zaeda Oracle, to pursue legal action over the alleged breach.
