NSE Applauds Federal Government’s Infrastructure Drive

The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Margaret Oguntala, has commended the Federal Government for its bold infrastructure initiatives, particularly highlighting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a transformative national project.
Speaking during an interview at the commissioning of the highway’s first section at Kilometre 8, Jakande Estate in Lagos, Oguntala praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership. She noted that such critical infrastructure investments would significantly boost national connectivity and economic development.
Oguntala emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum through the initiation of more strategic infrastructure projects across all geopolitical zones, with a focus on promoting economic inclusion and regional balance.
She further advocated for a strong commitment to local content development, urging the government to prioritize the use of Nigerian professionals, locally sourced materials, and homegrown innovations. According to her, this approach would enhance national capacity and foster long-term self-reliance.
“The Nigerian Society of Engineers stands ready to support national development efforts,” she stated. “We will continue to provide technical expertise and professional guidance to ensure that infrastructure projects meet global standards in quality, safety, and sustainability.”
Oguntala also called for collaboration among key stakeholders—including government agencies, private sector players, and development partners—to collectively advance the country’s infrastructure agenda.
In his remarks at the commissioning, President Tinubu described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a vital corridor for trade, tourism, and national integration.
He noted that projects under his Renewed Hope Agenda are designed to lay the groundwork for economic prosperity and unity across Nigeria.
“This project goes beyond bricks and mortar,” Tinubu said. “It represents a pathway to inclusion, cohesion, and opportunity for all Nigerians.”
The first completed section of the highway spans 30 kilometres, from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Village, and forms part of the broader 700-kilometre coastal highway traversing nine states.
