Benue Governor Suspends Top Aide Arrested by EFCC Over Alleged Sextortion and Cyberbullying

The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has indefinitely suspended his Special Adviser on Documentation, Research and Planning, Mr. Mkor Aondona, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The announcement was made on Sunday through a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, noting that the suspension takes immediate effect.

According to the statement, the EFCC arrested Aondona over serious allegations of sextortion, cyberbullying, and blackmail.

“The governor’s decision is in line with his unwavering commitment to uphold integrity, discipline and accountability in public service.

He says any official of his administration found wanting in matters of criminality or ethical misconduct will face the full weight of the law.”

Governor Alia emphasized his zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct in government, assuring the public that no interference or bias would obstruct the course of justice.

“While assuring the public that the law will take its full course without interference or bias, the Governor states clearly that his administration will not tolerate any act that brings the government into disrepute or undermines public trust.

Kula further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights, especially those of women and vulnerable groups and pledged continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability and justice.

“He emphasised that the Benue State Government under Alia remains committed to protecting the rights and dignity of all citizens, especially women and vulnerable groups and will continue to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served.”
