Benue Speaker Orders Inspection of BSU Hostels After Viral Post
The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has ordered an inspection of student hostels at Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi, following complaints about their poor condition.
Hon. Manger Manger, Chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education, led the visit on January 29, 2025, along with OAP Daniel Uza. They were taken around by the university’s Coordinator of Physical Planning, Arc. Herbert Pinne.
The visit was prompted by a Facebook post made by Krayzeetee Terver Atu on January 28, where he described the hostels as “uninhabitable,” comparing them to “a prison” and “a pig farm.” He wrote, “Apart from the mosquitoes which have become permanent roommates to these students, there are no toilets for convenience, and the female students have no choice but to go to the technical block and hide behind the fence to urinate.”
During the inspection, the delegation was shocked by the poor state of the hostels. Atu had also pointed out that despite paying high school fees, students still live in terrible conditions.

“This is our mother university which is generating a lot of revenue from the very expensive school fees and other levies. The least they can do is to provide a habitable environment for our brothers and sisters to stay and learn,” he wrote.
A source close to the Speaker expressed hope that the House of Assembly would act quickly to improve the hostels. Many people have praised the visit as a step in the right direction and are now waiting to see what action the government will take.
