
Bomb Explosion Rocks Army Barracks in Ijebu-Ode
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a minor bomb explosion occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, sparking a brief fire outbreak.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the localized blast took place inside one of the storage buildings of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.
Troops of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment, working in collaboration with the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service, swiftly contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the barracks.
The Army confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were sustained. Damage was restricted to the affected building and some stored materials. A detailed assessment is ongoing to determine the extent of material loss.
Residents of Ilese and nearby communities have been urged to remain calm and continue their daily activities as the military works with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the incident and prevent future occurrences.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its personnel and the surrounding civilian population.
