FCNN CEO Sani Wilson Enemona heads to Beijing for high-level talks on expanding broadcasting ties with China
Abuja, Nigeria -Sani Wilson Enemona, Chief Executive Officer of Fusion Chronicles Nigeria Newspaper (FCNN), departs Abuja today for an official visit to China, In a move poised to deepen media collaboration between Nigeria and the world’s second-largest economy,
Mr. Enemona is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Li Lecheng, China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, focusing on strengthening the two nations’ broadcasting partnership amid growing digital media exchanges.
The annual meeting, set against the backdrop of the China-Africa Media Cooperation Forum, underscores Beijing’s strategic push to amplify its narrative in Africa through enhanced content-sharing and technological integrations. His delegate revealed that Enemona’s itinerary includes a keynote address at the forum’s plenary session, where he will outline FCNN’s vision for co-producing documentaries on sustainable development and tech innovation, key priorities for both countries.
”FCNN has been at the forefront of bridging African stories with global audiences, and this partnership with China represents a pivotal step in that mission,” Enemona stated in a pre-departure briefing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
“Minister Li’s leadership in advancing China’s digital infrastructure aligns perfectly with our goals to modernize broadcasting in Nigeria, ensuring reliable, high-quality content reaches underserved communities.” Li Lecheng, who assumed his role as MIIT Minister in April 2025 following a tenure as Governor of Liaoning Province, has prioritized curbing overcapacity in high-tech sectors like solar photovoltaics and electric vehicles while fostering international alliances in information technology.
Under his oversight, China has ramped up investments in African media landscapes, including satellite broadcasting upgrades and other content localization tools. The discussions are expected to explore joint ventures in 5G-enabled news delivery and cross-platform syndication, potentially injecting millions dollars into FCNN’s operations.
FCNN, an Abuja-based news network renowned for its coverage of West African politics, economy, and culture, has seen viewership surge by 40% over the past year, partly due to pilot collaborations with Chinese state broadcasters like CGTN. Industry analysts view this trip as a litmus test for broader Sino-Nigerian media ties, especially as Nigeria navigates its digital transition under the National Broadcasting Commission’s latest reforms.
Enemona’s delegation, comprising FCNN’s director of international affairs, onyeanwula Ugwunna Victor and tech advisors, will also tour Huawei’s Shenzhen headquarters to scout advancements in broadcast equipment.
The visit concludes on November 25, with a potential memorandum of understanding anticipated to be signed, paving the way for FCNN to air exclusive Chinese tech expos and cultural specials.
As global media landscapes grow increasingly interconnected, this engagement highlights Africa’s rising role in bilateral diplomacy. “In an era of information sovereignty, partnerships like this aren’t just about content, they’re about empowering voices from the Global South,” noted Dr. Aisha Bello, a media policy expert at the University of Lagos.
