29 Suspects Arraigned Over Death of Kano DPO

The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 29 individuals in connection with the brutal killing of Chief Superintendent of Police Baba Ali, the Divisional Police Officer of Rano Division, along with other related offences.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were brought before Magistrate Court No. 20 in Nomansland, Kano, following a comprehensive investigation into the incident that sparked widespread outrage across the state.

Fourteen of the suspects, all residents of Rano Local Government Area, were charged with culpable homicide and a range of additional offences, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, arson, criminal trespass, grievous bodily harm, and theft.

They were identified as Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, Yunusa Adamu, Musa Minkaila, Mamuda Mohammed, Ismail Mamuda, Usman Shu’aibu, Musa Hassan Black, Abdulrashid Munkail, Umar Ado Nadada, and Sabitu Abubakar.

The remaining 15 suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, and acts of mischief related to the violent events that led to the DPO’s death and destruction of property.

CSP Baba Ali was reportedly killed while responding to a volatile security situation in Rano, where local tensions had escalated dangerously.

In the statement, the police command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served.

It also expressed gratitude for the support, condolences, and cooperation received from the public during the course of the investigation.

SP Kiyawa emphasized the command’s ongoing commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state, and to holding all those responsible for the DPO’s killing fully accountable.
