BREAKING: Senegal Triumphs over host Morocco in Dramatic AFCON 2025

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Senegal emerged victorious over hosts Morocco in a tense final held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on January 18, 2026. The match, which went into extra time, ended 1-0 in favor of Senegal, with Pape Gueye’s stunning 94th-minute strike securing their second continental crown.

This victory marks Senegal’s second triumphs in history, following their 2021 success, and denies Morocco a second title after their sole win in 1976.

The tournament, officially known as the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, was the 35th edition organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Hosted by Morocco for the second time (after 1988), it ran from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, across various venues.

This was a unique winter scheduling due to conflicts with the expanded FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Champions League. Twenty-four teams competed, with notable absences like Ghana (failing to qualify for the first time since 2004) and strong showings from underdogs such as Comoros and Botswana.

Total attendance reached 1,273,496 fans, averaging about 24,971 per match, reflecting the event’s massive popularity.
