In a stunning development that has sent shockwaves across the global political landscape, sources within the U.S. Department of War have reportedly confirmed that the United States is preparing for a large-scale military intervention in Nigeria. The operation, according to insiders, aims to “eliminate entrenched terrorist organizations threatening regional and international stability.”

Although official confirmation has yet to be released by the White House, senior defense officials  speaking under condition of anonymity  claim that the Department of War has initiated early logistical movements in cooperation with several allied nations. The reported goal is to dismantle terrorist networks operating primarily in Nigeria’s northern and northeastern regions, including factions affiliated with ISIS-West Africa and Boko Haram.

Pentagon analysts describe the initiative as “strategic and preemptive,” designed to prevent further escalation of extremist violence that has plagued West Africa over the past decade. Early intelligence suggests that American special operations forces could be deployed alongside regional partners under a multi-phase campaign expected to begin in early 2026.

The Nigeria, government officials have remained tight-lipped. However, an unnamed source within the Ministry of Defence stated that Abuja had been briefed on potential “joint security measures” but had not approved any foreign troop movements on its soil.

International reaction has been mixed. African Union leaders are reportedly calling for restraint and diplomacy, while European allies have expressed tentative support for a coordinated anti-terror effort if sanctioned under United Nations authority.

The U.S. operation would mark the first major American military engagement on African soil since the 2011 Libya intervention  and could significantly reshape the geopolitical landscape of West Africa.

As of press time, neither President of the United States nor Nigeria’s President has issued an official statement regarding the alleged preparations.
