Gunmen Attack Maihadiya Village, Abduct Passengers on Damaturu-Buni Yadi Road

Suspected armed assailants launched an attack on Maihadiya Village near Gujba town, along the Damaturu-Buni Yadi road in Yobe State, on Wednesday at approximately 6:50 a.m.

Investigations by Fusion Chronicles Nigeria Newspaper revealed that the heavily armed attackers, widely believed to be affiliated with an opposition group in the state, blocked the road and caused chaos for motorists and commuters.

According to a reliable source from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the armed men intercepted a passenger multipurpose Sharon vehicle, forcing it to a stop and abducting several unsuspecting passengers.

An official from the Red Cross, who provided one of their recent incident reports to Fusion Chronicles Nigeria Newspaper, confirmed that “a group of armed opposition militants, riding on three motorcycles, stormed Maihadiya Village, intercepting a passenger bus (Sharon) traveling from Buni Yadi to Maiduguri via Damaturu.”

The report further stated that upon approaching the scene, the bus driver and a lactating mother recognized the armed men and managed to escape.

However, the remaining passengers, along with the vehicle and their belongings, were seized and taken to an unknown location.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation was underway to determine the number of casualties or abducted victims.

“Yes, the incident has been confirmed, but investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the number of casualties or kidnapped victims,” Abdulkareem stated.

Fusion Chronicles Nigeria Newspaper also reports that this attack follows a similar one on Gujba town on March 8, 2025, where armed gunmen raided homes and shops, resulting in the killing of a vigilante. The Nigerian Army later intervened, successfully repelling the attackers.
