Cable Vandalism Foiled in Demekpe: Suspect with Police ID Apprehended

Residents of Demekpe community in Makurdi, Benue State, apprehended a suspected cable vandal in the early hours of Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

The suspect, a male believed to be in his early 50s, was caught around 4:00 a.m. while allegedly vandalizing electrical cables in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, two of his accomplices initially fled the scene but were later identified and arrested after the first suspect named them as Isa and Mohammed.

The individuals reportedly known in the community and said to reside in the compound of the well-known Alhaji Dash.

Items recovered from the suspect include electrical cables, F connectors, and a police identity card bearing the name Innocent Ishaku, ID number 309976, with a matching photograph.

All three suspects have since been handed over to the D Division Police Station in Makurdi for further investigation.

Community members are calling for increased security patrols and stricter penalties for cable vandalism, which continues to pose a significant threat to local infrastructure.
