“Citizens to MTN Nigeria: We Have Alternatives if You Shut Down”

Nigerians have voiced their readiness to switch to other telecom providers if MTN Nigeria shuts down operations due to ongoing economic challenges. The telecom giant recently proposed its first tariff hike in 11 years, citing the need to manage rising costs and maintain service quality. MTN warned that without this adjustment, the financial health of the sector and service standards would suffer.
In response to these developments on Fusion Chronicles Nigeria Online’s social media platforms, many Nigerians expressed their willingness to migrate to other telecom services if MTN follows through on its warning.
On Facebook, a user named Deji Ajayi Glorious commented, “It’s not our problem. We’ll find another network.” Another user, Emma Asukwu, wrote, “We have alternatives, so no need to negotiate.”
David Stephen also reacted, “Please, they should shut down. I’ve stopped using my MTN SIM for over a year now. MTN, please pack out.”
Samuel Ololade added, “Glo to the rescue—double data all the way.”
On X (formerly known as Twitter), a user, @ThatGiovanni94, tweeted, “Finally, they’re leaving. It’s been a rough ride. Goodbye, Yellow.”
