Catholic Priest Arrested for Shooting Teenager Over Firecracker Incident in Imo State Church

Rev. Father Joseph Enyinaya, a Catholic priest, has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting a teenage boy to death after the boy threw a firecracker, commonly known as a banger, inside St. Columbus Catholic Church, Amaimo, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.

According to eyewitness accounts, the priest reportedly drew a revolver and fired at the boy during the incident, which occurred on December 31.

Confirming the arrest, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated: “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Ikeduru Mortuary.”

He further disclosed that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic event.

“The police investigation is expected to shed more light on the events leading up to the incident,” Okoye added.
