Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the people of Nigeria over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a respected statesman and friend of China.
In a condolence letter sent on Wednesday, President Xi praised Buhari’s unwavering commitment to national development and unity, as well as his strong dedication to advancing Nigeria-China relations.
“President Buhari was a distinguished leader who explored development paths suited to Nigeria’s unique conditions and made remarkable contributions to the country’s unity and progress,” Xi wrote. “He earned deep respect within the international community.”
He also highlighted Buhari’s role in strengthening ties between Nigeria and China. “He firmly upheld the Nigeria-China friendship and actively promoted China-Africa cooperation. His passing is a great loss to the Nigerian people and to the Chinese, who regarded him as a dear friend.”
On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi extended heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, President Tinubu, and the entire nation.
