Police Avert Mob Action On Suspected Motorcycle Snatchers In Karu

Two suspects who specialize in snatching motorcycles escaped death by a whisker, thanks to the timely intervention of officers of the Nigerian Police attached to Uke Divisional Office, Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State. Their swift action averted the lynching of the suspects.

The incident occurred on Friday when the suspects snatched a motorcycle at an area known as GRA in Uke. Some commercial motorcycle riders (Okada), who summoned courage, gave them a hot chase, and they abandoned the motorcycle and dove into River Uke near the popular Zimbabwe bridge along the Abuja-Keffi express road.

The unrelenting mob, however, followed suit by diving into the river and apprehending them. The furious mob beat up the thieves with sticks and stones to the point of killing them, only for the police to appear following a call from community members, allowing for quick intervention to avoid mob action.

Our correspondent, who was on the spot, reported that the police dispersed the mob, largely made up of motorcyclists, who were bitter over the incessant snatching and killing of their members by unscrupulous elements.

One motorcyclist, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said his brother was killed last week by motorcycle snatchers.

“We can’t allow the police to keep preventing us from killing those who don’t want to work but snatch and kill us for performing legitimate services just to fend for our families,” he said.
