COMPTROLLER GENERAL NIGERIA IMMIGRATION PAYS A VISIT TO KEBBI STATE

The Kebbi State Government has condoled with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following the tragic killing of three of its officers by bandits while discharging their duty.
State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, extended the condolences on behalf of the Kebbi state government when he received the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap who paid him a courtesy visit in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Senator Umar Tafida said the government was saddened by the unfortunate incident. He prayed to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the officers and grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss. The Deputy Governor also assured that security officers in Kebbi State would continue to work as a team to address the issue of insecurity in the state.
Senator Umar Tafida further advised the formation of a joint team at Checkpoints comprising the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Customs, and other security personnel to ensure their safety. He emphasized that the Nigeria Immigration Service is doing its best in protecting the nation, particularly at the borders, which he noted have been problematic.
The Deputy Governor specifically mentioned the Nigeria‑Niger and Nigeria‑Benin Republic borders as areas requiring enhanced security efforts to prevent illegal migration. He urged the NIS to intensify efforts to secure these borders. He assured the State government’s support to the families of the deceased officers through the office of the Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to protecting the nation despite the security challenges. She appreciated the Kebbi State Government’s efforts since the occurrence of the incident and appealed for community engagement to prevent future incidents.
Mrs. Nanna also emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the Nigeria Immigration Service to ensure the safety of officers.
The Controller General stated that the Service will not be discouraged by the recent incident and will continue to work towards protecting the nation’s borders. She also expressed her gratitude to the Kebbi State Government for its support to the families of the deceased officers.
