BREAKING: FG Sets Minimum University Admission Age at 16

The Federal Government has officially pegged 16 years as the minimum age for admission into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja during the opening session of the 2025 Policy Meeting of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
“This policy strikes a balance between cognitive development and academic readiness. The age of 16 is mandatory and non-negotiable,” he stated.
