Court Jails Man Four Years for Dealing Cannabis and Methamphetamine
A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has sentenced one Sunday Akande to four years imprisonment for dealing in 360 grams of Cannabis sativa and 2 grams of methamphetamine.
In her judgment, Justice Nkeonye Maha convicted Akande based on the evidence presented by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The judge, while delivering the verdict, said, “Akande is sentenced to four years imprisonment each for counts one and two, and the sentence shall run concurrently. The exhibits found in his possession shall be destroyed by the NDLEA.”
Justice Maha further cautioned the convict, warning that stiffer punishment would await him if he was brought back before the court for any crime after serving his term.

Earlier, NDLEA counsel in Oyo State, Mr. Daniel Otunla, informed the court that the convict committed the offence in January at the Gate area of Ibadan.
According to him, NDLEA operatives acted on intelligence from concerned citizens, leading to Akande’s arrest with a sack containing 360 grams of Cannabis sativa and 2 grams of methamphetamine — a psychotropic substance.
The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Section 11 (C) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
