
Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered suspended DCP Abba Kyari to open his defence in a cocaine trafficking case.
The court found that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against Kyari and his co-defendants. Conspiracy to traffic 17.55kg of cocaine and unlawful tampering with an additional 21.35kg.
Abba Kyari, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, was suspended and arrested in February 2022.He and four other police officers (ACP Sunday Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirgba, and Inspector John Nuhu) are being tried for alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking ring.

However,Kyari and his co-defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were arraigned on March 7, 2022.Two convicts, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne, had admitted to trafficking cocaine and were sentenced.
The judge, Justice Emeka Nwite dismissed the no-case submissions filed by Kyari and his co-defendants.
The court found that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against Kyari and his co-defendants.
