Sunny Ade has been Kidnapped

Legendary Juju musician King Sunny Ade has reportedly been declared missing by his daughter, Damilola Adeniyi-Adegeye.
In a series of viral social media posts, Damilola claimed that her father had been kidnapped by his step-brother and manager.
She also provided concerning details about King Sunny Ade’s health and alleged mistreatment by his captors.
In one of her posts, she expressed deep concern, stating, “Dad told my brother that he wants to go home. Where is he? Where are his phones? He has not been online or picking up calls. Where is he?” In another post, she demanded action against Dayo, her brother and alleged manager, saying, “I want Dayo apprehended. I want him to provide all the money they have been stealing from him. He has a UK visa, thinking he can run.”
Contradicting Damilola’s claims, Dayo stated in an exclusive interview with reporters that their father is in good health.
He clarified that he is not King Sunny Ade’s official manager but is merely assisting him.
“The allegation is false. On Saturday (April 26, 2025), my dad performed at the 60th birthday party of a fan at 16 Musa Yar’Adua Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He even had rehearsals with his band last week and is set to perform in Akure (the Ondo State capital) on May 1,” he affirmed.
Dayo expressed concern about his sister’s mental state, commenting, “She is not in the right frame of mind to have made those posts.
On Easter Sunday, she called me wanting to speak with Dad, as she doesn’t live in Nigeria. I allowed her to talk with him for about 30 minutes. I even offered for her to visit Nigeria to see him. However, once she began making derogatory remarks about our father, she crossed a line. You cannot speak ill of him and expect me to still acknowledge you, regardless of who you are. Even my mother wouldn’t do that.”
He also mentioned that King Sunny Ade would be issuing an official statement to clarify the situation.
“Please disregard everything she has said. KSA will release a statement on social media within 24 hours. If you’re available, you can join him in Akure for his performance on May 1, where he will be open to engaging with anyone who wishes to ask questions about the rumors circulating online.”
Dayo reiterated that he is not an official manager and described his role as one of support during a transitional period. “I do not have a formal employment contract and am not on payroll. I am simply helping my father as the Scriptures encourage.
This arrangement was not initially planned but arose from certain circumstances. KSA asked me to assist with various responsibilities until he secures someone for that role, and he appreciates what I’ve been doing, encouraging me to continue.”
“This feels like repaying him for all that he has done for me. One of his greatest joys is performing on stage, and he has dedicated the last 59 years to that passion. We can’t simply ask him to stop,” stated one of the legendary musician’s sons.
David, another son of the renowned artist, firmly defended their father, alleging that Damilola was fabricating stories.
In a separate interview, he asserted, “As I speak to you, Dad is doing well. He is not under any pressure. He just completed an event, and I can provide proof and evidence to confirm that he is perfectly fine.” David expressed his willingness to share additional information to reassure others that their father was safe and there was no reason for concern.
However, respected journalist Olawale Olaleye claimed that King Sunny Ade had become less accessible to those who previously maintained contact with him.
In a social media post, he wrote that Damilola reached out to him, expressing worries about her father’s well-being and lack of communication.
He noted that another associate had also contacted him for help in reaching KSA to book him for an event.

Olawale explained that he attempted various methods to connect with KSA, all of which were unsuccessful. “Interestingly, all those who could once easily reach KSA found it impossible to do so,” he stated. “At that point, I gave up and continued with my own endeavors.”
