Oyo Police Urge Parents to Stay Alert as Schools Resume

The Oyo State Police Command has called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant as schools reopen for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, the command expressed concern over rising cases of abuse, especially against girls, and urged parents to pay close attention to their children’s behaviour.

“The growing incidents of abuse, particularly against girls, are concerning. Stay alert for any warning signs from your children to help protect them before it’s too late,” the police warned.

Parents were further advised to familiarise themselves with teachers, school staff, bus drivers, and security personnel, and to promptly report concerns to the Oyo Police Control Room via +234 808 176 8614.

Schools across Nigeria resumed on September 15 for the first term, with mixed reports of improved facilities in some areas and dilapidated conditions in others.

In Oyo State, the Ministry of Education confirmed that classes resumed in line with the official academic calendar, dismissing rumours of a postponement.

Meanwhile, Lagos State released its harmonised calendar, with the first half of the term running from September 15 to October 31 and the second from November 10 to December 19.
