Court to Rule June 27 on Senator Natasha’s Suspension Dispute

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has set June 27 to deliver judgment in the case filed by suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, challenging her suspension from the Senate.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had taken legal action against the Senate, led by President Godswill Akpabio, alleging that her suspension was rooted in bias and misconduct claims.
In her suit, she named the National Assembly, the Senate, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, as defendants.
The matter, originally before Justice Obiora Egwuatu, was reassigned to Justice Nyako after the former recused himself.
During Monday’s hearing, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, Jibrin Okutekpa (SAN), informed the court that all required documents had been submitted in line with the court’s previous directive.
Legal representatives for the Senate and the Senate President, Paul Daudu (SAN) and Ekwo Ejembi, also confirmed filing their respective documents.
However, they highlighted a motion accusing the plaintiff of contempt of court. They alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan defied a court order by posting a satirical apology letter addressed to the Senate President on Facebook and in national newspapers on March 27.
Responding, the plaintiff’s counsel, Michael Numan (SAN), acknowledged the contempt motion but reminded the court of a similar motion previously filed against the defendants.

He argued that the alleged statement had no direct link to his client and should not be considered contemptuous.
