Fulani Herders Invade Benue Farmlands During Tinubu’s Peace Visit”

Makurdi, Benue State – Just days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s high-profile visit to Benue State to console victims of mass killings, panic has erupted again as Fulani herdsmen reportedly returned in droves to farmlands in several communities, particularly in Guma Local Government Area.

In a shocking twist, residents of Uvir Ward revealed that from Wednesday to Thursday, waves of herders and thousands of cattle invaded villages like Tse-Orvihi and Antsa, brazenly trampling cultivated lands and reigniting fears of fresh violence.

Local farmers, still reeling from the aftermath of the Yelwata massacre that left over 200 dead, say the timing couldn’t be more disturbing.

“They came without warning, moving freely through our farms with thousands of cows,” said Samuel Jootar, a farmer in the area. “We’ve done nothing to provoke this, yet people are now fleeing their homes again.”

Another farmer, Selumun, echoed the alarm: “Our lives are being disrupted all over again. The president came to show sympathy, but the herdsmen returned with a message of terror.”

The reappearance of the herders amid promises of peace has sparked outrage and fear, with many wondering if real security will ever reach the grassroots. The situation remains tense as residents plead for urgent government intervention.
