Cricket: Nigeria Eye Semi-Final Spot in Crucial Uganda Clash

Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, will face Uganda today (Wednesday) in their final group-stage match of the 2025 Kwibuka T20i tournament in Rwanda, with a place in the semi-finals on the line.

The Nigerians boosted their qualification hopes on Tuesday with a dominant 46-run victory over Malawi at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium A, climbing to fourth on the table.

Batting first after Malawi won the toss and chose to field, Nigeria posted 107 runs all out in 19.3 overs. Key contributions came from Omosigho Eguakun (19 off 21), Lilian Ude (21* off 16), and Player of the Match Amusa Kehinde (16 runs). Despite a steady fall of wickets, Nigeria’s total was bolstered by partnerships and 23 runs from extras.

Malawi’s bowlers made a valiant effort, with Sungeni Kananji and Lydia Dimba each taking three wickets, while Praise Maziya chipped in with two.

In response, Malawi faltered in their chase, managing just 60 for 9 in 20 overs against a disciplined Nigerian bowling unit. Amusa starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 18 runs in four overs—securing her third straight Player of the Match award. She received solid backing from Ude (2 for 6) and Peace Usen (1 for 7).
